The RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for Children) is intended for children and youth not baptized as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age (ages 8 to 13). This process is based on the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). The Christian initiation of these children requires both a conversion that is personal and somewhat developed in proportion to their age.
Children above second grade who are baptized and have not celebrated their first Reconciliation or received first Holy Communion are also included in this process. After this year, they then move into their correct grade level in Children’s Faith Formation.
Non-baptized participants in the RCIC program celebrate the rites proper to the initiation process, and enter into full communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil, receiving the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist).
Baptized participants enter into full communion with the Church by celebrating their first Reconciliation during Lent and receiving the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil.
The RCIC sessions are held on Monday from 4:45 – 5:55 p.m., beginning in September and concluding in May.
